Dublin Institute of Technology Sport Scholarships Programme

In Sport, we facilitate this vision through the Sports Scholarship Programme aspiring to the highest standards possible. The Programme supports high performance sports men and women who have the talent and dedication to combine an academic course with excellence in sport. It affords talented young people the opportunity to pursue their sporting ambitions and to reach their full potential whilst obtaining a third level qualification at the Institute.
Within the Sports and Recreation Service we are committed to ensuring that our talented sports men and women are afforded the best opportunity to develop their potential through the creation of quality systems and structures which encourage, facilitate and support our aspiring top performers towards high performance in their chosen sport.
Since the programmes inception in 2000 the Institute has awarded sports scholarships across a wide range of sports from archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, camogie, clay pigeon shooting, cycling, downhill mountain biking, equestrian, gaelic football-men, gaelic football-women, golf, handball, hockey, hurling, motor sport, rowing, rugby, soccer men & -women, swimming & waterpolo, table-tennis and taekwon-do.
Some of Ireland’s new sporting figures who have recently completed the programme or are currently participating on include: David Gillick (European Champion 400m), Lee Murphy (World Student Games - Equestrian gold medalist), William O’Dwyer (Kilkenny Senior Hurler) and Mark Vaughan (Dublin Senior Footballer).
TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships are awarded at one of three levels - Elite, Talented or Developmental based on merit and up to a maximum of €3,000 in monetary value and additional support services.
Please note support services are dependant on the level of scholarship awarded and may be paid or subsidised in full..
Applications will be considered from prospective students who have applied for a course at the Dublin Institute of Technology through the Central Applications Office (C.A.O.)
To be eligible for a DIT Sports Scholarship applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
- Be enrolled on a programme of academic study at DIT
- Be competing in a sport which is recognised by the Irish Sports Council . For further information please visit www.irishsportscouncil.ie
- Compete and perform at International, National, Inter-provincial, Inter-County and/or Senior Club level
- Commit to a high level of involvement (club promotion, development, administration) and represent the Institute in the appropriate competitive structure.Athletes that wish to be considered for a Sports Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year must send a completed Application Form to the Sports & Recreation Office. The closing date for receipt of application forms for the 2008-2009 Sports Scholarship Programme is the 23rd May 2008.
