Cerebral Palsy Sport Ireland

Ireland’s most prolific Paralympic athlete, Jason Smyth, was today forced to withdraw from the forthcoming IPC Athletics World Championships to be held in Christchurch, New Zealand from the 21st-30th January.

The Insititute of Technology Tralee in conjunction with the CARA National APA Centre Ltd and the Irish Sports Council is delighted to announce dates for the next (4th) National Adapted Physical Activity Conference.

At a meeting in Guangzhou, China, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board has voted to increase the number of sports at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games to 22 with the addition of para-canoe and par-triathlon to the existing Sports Programme.

The Football Association of Ireland, through their Football For All programme has established a new supporters club in partnership with all disability governing bodies throughout the country.

Ireland’s Michael McKillop; a Beijing Paralympic Games gold medalist in the T37 800m, is currently training amongst a group of leading International athletes in South Africa ahead of the IPC Athletics World Championships, which get underway in Christchurch, New Zealand on January 30th 2011.

The Disability Provision Award was introduced in 2005 in partnership with Cerebral Palsy Sport Ireland and the Irish Wheelchair Association Sport and has grown every yearsince. On Behalf of CPSI, Brenda O Donnell says “that as an organisation they are extremely proud to be part of the award and it is very rewarding each year to see an increase in numbers applying for the award and also the standard to which the centers are achieving”

Lance Armstrong’s RadioShack Cycling Team are not the only team to have secured the services of Irish professional cyclist Philip Deignan, following confirmation this week that he has agreed to act as patron for a local sports project in his native county.

Minister Hanafin was joined at the launch in Irishtown Stadium, Dublin by leading sporting personalities including Leinster Captain and Irish rugby international Leo Cullen;Leinster’s Fergus McFadden; Sligo Senior Footballer David Kelly; St Patrick’s Athletic striker Ryan Guy; Republic of Ireland Under-17 Ladies footballer Siobhan Killeen and Senior Irish Womens hockey player Nicci Daly.
