BT Paralympic World Cup- Manchester

The Irish Team representing PCI at the BT Paralympic World Cup was announced this evening in Dublin. Ireland will be competing in the sports of Athletics and Football 7-A-Side in this invitation only event.
Ireland will be represented by Double Beijing Gold Medalist, Jason Smyth in the T11-13 100m and 200m at the Manchester Regional Arena (Sportcity) on Tuesday May 25th. The event marks Smyth’s first Paralympic appearance this season as he attempts to secure qualifying standards for the upcoming IPC Athletics World Championships in New Zealand. Smyth, who has been training with Tyson Gay throughout the winter months will travel in from his Florida training base for the event.
Football 7-A-Side makes its first appearance on the programme at the Paralympic World Cup this year. The four team tournament will include Ireland, Great Britain, The Netherlands and USA. The event takes place at Manchester Regional Arena (Sportcity from May 26th-29th. The Irish team announced this evening following a meeting of the Football High Performance Committee includes:
Aidan Brennan (Capt), Joseph Markey, James Scally, Derek Malone, Paul Dollard, Jason Moran, Brian McGillivary (GK), Luke Evans, Finbar O’Riordan, Gary Messett, Darren Kavanagh and Mark Jones.
The schedule of matches for the Irish Team is as follows:
May 26th: Ireland V Netherlands (k.o. 15:15)
May 27th: Ireland V USA (k.o. 12:30)
May 28th: Ireland V Great Britain (k.o. 14:30)
The bronze medal match and final take place on May 29th.
