Boccia Team off to Great Start at Boccia World Championships
June 3rd, 2010. In: BocciaThe Irish Boccia squad got off to a solid start on Day 1 of the CPISRA Boccia World Championships in Lisbon yesterday. The event has commenced with the critical Pair & Team events which will determine London 2012 qualification places.
First into the fray were the BC1/BC2 Team against the USA. The Irish team of Padraic Moran, Bobbie Connolly, Tom Leahy & Jason Kearney had a comfortable start and ran out winners 17:1.
Their second match in Pool E against Norway was a tighter affair but again the Irish were victorious with a 6:1 victory. The team will play Australia to determine the final placings in the pool.
In the BC3 Pair event, Ireland’s John Cronin, Gerard O’Grady and Jennifer Garde had a tougher time of it in Pool F. The Irish had a hard fought victory 7:4 against Australia in the first match but lost out 4:2 to Greece in the second match. They move on to play Sweden in the final pool match.
