Boccia: Moran set for Boccia World Championships quarter-final
June 8th, 2010. In: Boccia
As the Boccia World Championships enters its final day, Bray’s Padraic Moran is the sole Irish player to remain in contention for the medals after four days of gruelling competition.
Moran, victorious in his pool has played solidly in the nerve-wracking knockout stages, defeating Austalia’s Barry Fear 9:0 in the last 32 and Witsanu Huatpradit of Thailand 9:1 in the last 16 stage to advance to tomorrow’s quarter-final. Moran will now face Brasil’s Anoonio Nunes Silva Neto in the first match of tomorrow’s session.
Should Moran succeed, he will face two further matches tomorrow which will hopefully secure his first major boccia medal in his short career to date.
Ireland’s two other competitors in action today unfortunately lost out. Mallow’s John Cronin successfully overcame Maria Lourenco (BRA) 9:0 but lost out 4:3 to Korea’s Han Soo Kim in the last 16 stage. Tom Leahy from Ballyhooly, lost to Enyang Zhao (CHN) 4:2 in the final 32 stage.
