Cerebral Palsy Sport Ireland National Boccia League Final
July 8th, 2010. In: Boccia, CPSIOn Tuesday last, 6 teams battled it out to try to gain a place in the final 3. The teams were divided into two pools with each playing each other to emerge from their pool in top spot.
Playing off for the 5th and 6th spot we had Quinns Cross Boccia team from Limerick against Cork Boccia Team. Both teams put up a very competitive match, with Cork Beating limerick by one point to secure 5th place.
Next we seen newcomers to the league, IWA Ardee, battle it out against the IWA Offaly. Experience shone through for the Offaly Team giving them a 5-1 victory over their opponents.
The final match of the day, saw Sligo Town Boccia Team C and Newcomers The Sandyford Steamers meet. A tightly fought match between the two teams was guaranteed, but newcomers Sandyford Steamers, Kept adding points to the board after the second end and they went on to clinch the title. The team was made up of Dermott Madsen (Captain), Cathy Quinn, Margaret O Meara and Madeleine Cotter, Carl Grey and manager and coach Michael Harvey. Team coordinator was Phena O’ Connor.
Well done to all 19 teams that have participated in the league from the very start. A very high standard of Boccia is beginning to emerge from the league which is giving all teams plenty of competition to get stuck into.

A big thank you to all the Boccia team managers, coaches, co-ordinators, bus drivers and anyone else that helped to make the league possible. I look forward to seeing you all again next year.
