Irish Paracycling Squad for UCI Road World Championships Announced.

Following the Irish Paracycling training camp in Limerick last weekend, Cycling Ireland has announced the squad that will represent Ireland at the UCI Paracycling Road World Championships in Baie-Comeau, Canada from 19th to 22nd of August 2010.

In the Female Tandem category Catherine Walsh and her pilot Francine Meehan will be attempting to emulate their silver medal performance at the Road World Cup in June or even go one step further and take the gold.  Likewise for World Cup Silver Medallist Mark Rohan who is selected to compete in the H1 Handcycling Category.  Karol Doherty has been select to compete in the H3 Handcycling Category.

In the Male Tandem category newly crowned National Tandem TT Champions Andrew Fitzgerald and pilot Paul Giblin will be joined by Michael Delaney and Con Collis.

The announcement sees the welcome return to the squad of Cathal Miller in the C5 category with Enda Smyth selected in the C4 category and Colin Lynch in the C2 category.

All riders will compete in both the Road Race and Time Trial competitions at the championships.

The squad were joined at their Limerick camp by three times Tour De France winner Greg LeMond and they cycled with Greg as part of the 100km BDO Get BACK Challenge on the Saturday.

Welcoming the announcement Irish Paracycling Manager Denis Toomey said there will be high hopes for a number of medal winning performances from those selected.  Success at the World Championships will bring the added benefit of securing valuable Ranking Points towards Irish qualification slots for the 2012London Paralympic Games.
