Following the Irish Paracycling training camp in Limerick last weekend, Cycling Ireland has announced the squad that will represent Ireland at the UCI Paracycling Road World Championships in Baie-Comeau, Canada from 19th to 22nd of August 2010.

he Irish Paracyling Squad have arrived in Manchester ahead of tomorrow’s first day of competition at the UCI Paracycling Track World Championships which run over 3 days from 6th to 8th of November.

Hot on the heels of their medal winning and record setting performances at last weeks Paralympic Track World Cup in Manchester the Irish Paralympic Cycling Squad were back to their winning ways finishing in first place in three of the four categories they competed in and second in the fourth category at the International Grand Prix of Wales in Newport yesterday.

Just 0.074 of a second is all that separated the Irish Female Tandem pairing of Catherine Walsh and her pilot Caroline Ryan from the gold medal in the 3km Pursuit at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester today. The girls were drawn to ride off for the gold medal against the current World and Paralympic Champion British cyclist Aileen McGlynn and her pilot Vicky Begg in what turned out to be the closest fought race of the event.

After a hugely successful 4 year campaign, cumulating with 3 fifth place finishes at the Paralympic games in Beijing, Cycling Ireland (CI) and the Paralympic Council of Ireland (PCI) are now undertaking a talent trawl to identify athletes with a disability and able bodied tandem pilots to try out for their 2012 Eye on London Programme.

The recently announced Irish Paralympic Cycling Squad were on form at this weekends Europa Cup Para-cycling road race and time trial in Segovia Spain. LC1 cyclist Cathal Miller but in a great performance to win yesterday’s Time Trial landing his first Paralympic Cycling victory.

The Irish Paralympic Cycling Squad followed up on last week’s medal winning and record breaking performance at the Paralympic World Cup with two more Irish Records and two wins at the Schlapp Tandem Omnium in Manchester on Sunday and the Paralympic Grand Prix of Wales in Newport on Monday.

The Irish got the first day of the Paralympic World Cup at Manchester Velodrome off to a great start on Thursday last with Locomotor Disorder Cyclist Cathal Miller just missing out on a Bronze Medal in an exciting ride off against the British rider in the 4km Pursuit.

Irish CP4 Rider, Enda Smyth is looking good for selection on the Irish Paralympic Cycling Team for Beijing which will be announced on June 23rd.
